Hough Settings
Filter Size
The Hough filter size needs to be
adjusted to match the size of the peaks found in the transform.
Normally, the default setting (9) can
be used as shown in the diffraction patterns below
|
 |
 |
|
Diffraction pattern from nickel collected at 30 kV
accelerating voltage |
Hough transform of this
diffraction pattern with the peaks marked in the same color as the
corresponding Kikuchi band. |
If the bands are wider - because the
accelerating voltage is reduced or the material has small d-spacings - the
filter size must changed.

Diffraction pattern from nickel collected at 10 kV
accelerating voltage using filter size 9. Not all the Kikuchi bands
have been found |
Hough transform of this
diffraction pattern. The peaks are broader. |
Same diffraction pattern
using filter size 15. The Kikuchi bands are now found (The broadest
bands are omitted, but sufficient bands are found to calculate an
orientation.) |
The corresponding Hough
transform. |
